The problem comes in with drivers, as Virtual Machines like VirtualBox or VMWare Player are still using the host's drivers to interface with physical devices; even though there may be an interpretation layer within that VM environment designed to translate calls between drivers installed in the guest OS, and the drivers that talk to the physical hardware via the host OS drivers.
